Dear MHCS Parents,

All K-9 Parents are invited to attend a mini town hall forum with Medicine Hat Public School Division School Board Trustee Carolyn Freeman, on Monday, February 24th at MHCS @ 3:30 p.m. in Room 302 (room behind the library).

As you may be aware, the 2019-20 provincial budget cut several educational grants received by public school jurisdictions; our Division has experienced a $3.8m decrease. Fortunately, we have the financial reserves to cover these reductions for the current school year. In the absence of information regarding next year’s budget, public school divisions are faced with a great deal of uncertainty.

We, the Board of Trustees have established mini town hall forums to discuss our financial position and we want to hear from you, as our partner in education. It is important that our education community has factual information on these matters. We are eager to gather feedback about what you value most in the programs, services and supports provided to your children so we can thoughtfully consider the parent/guardian voice when making decisions about the 2020-2021 budget.

What to expect at the mini town hall forum?

  1. Budget review: What is the current and projected budget situation?
  2. How will a $3.8m cut to funding effect students?
  3. Looking ahead, what are the priorities that we need to protect?
  4. What action can families take?
